Phèdre Barbas is an artist and designer based in Paris. Through a multidisciplinary practice spanning installation, design, and research, she explores how objects, materials, and environments become symbols and shape our collective imaginaries.
By analysing, extracting, and appropriating existing elements, she investigates their symbolic charge and the narratives they carry. Her work engages with a semiotic approach, considering forms, materials, and uses as systems of signs that embody values, beliefs, and collective narratives. Moving between matter, space, and mythology, she reconfigures familiar forms to reveal the invisible stories and symbolic structures that shape our everyday lives.
A graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven in 2024, where she developed a research-driven and experimental approach, Phedre Barbas builds her projects through a constant dialogue between theoretical inquiry and material experimentation. Her work has been presented at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris), the TextielMuseum (Tilburg), the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen (Dresden), and in design weeks in Paris, Milan and Eindhoven.
